Optimum operates two physically distinct networks: the legacy Cablevision DOCSIS cable plant covering the NY tri-state, and an expanding fiber overlay being built in select neighborhoods. Cable plans top out around 1 Gig down with much lower upload (typically 35 Mbps); the fiber product reaches up to 5 Gig symmetrical.
Pricing on Optimum varies more by market than almost any other provider in our lineup — the same plan name can carry different starting prices in Long Island vs. Connecticut vs. Texas (where Optimum acquired Suddenlink). When we quote Optimum we always run your service address to confirm both the plan and the price you’d actually be charged.

What’s the real difference between Optimum cable and Optimum fiber?
Optimum cable runs over coaxial DOCSIS infrastructure and tops out around 1 Gig download with 35 Mbps upload. Optimum fiber is a separate XGS-PON network reaching select neighborhoods, offering symmetrical speeds up to 5 Gig. Fiber is generally the better product when it’s available at your address.
Does Optimum have data caps?
No. All current Optimum residential internet plans, both cable and fiber, are sold with unlimited data and no overage charges.
Can I bundle Optimum with mobile service?
Yes — Optimum Mobile is sold alongside internet and customers who add at least one mobile line typically receive a credit on their internet bill. Pricing varies; ask us for the current bundle rate at your address.
